When studying in Norway, many overseas students work part-time jobs. It’s a good method to improve your Norwegian while also increasing your budget. You should be aware, however, that you are limited in how much work you can do in addition to being a full-time student.
In general, a student residency permit does not grant you the right to work in Norway. If you are granted a study permit, however, you will also be granted permission to work part-time.
Students from the EU/EEA do not require a work permit and can work in Norway after registering with the police.
During their first year of education, non-EU/EEA students can work up to 20 hours per week. Be aware that the part-time job permit does not automatically renew when the study permit is renewed. Students must demonstrate sufficient progress in their studies in order to renew their work permits. Please contact your institution for further information.
